The 89-year-old widow and former office manager Doreen Bell has led an adventurous and creative life. She married a sailor and traveled and lived at many places for more than 20 years after being born and raised in Dyess, Arkansas. Doreen, who had always enjoyed science fiction, needlework, and gardening, turned to writing when her vision issues forced her to give up these interests.
